Fire at Sea
Fire at Sea is focussed on Lampedusa, an island in the Mediterranean, and contrasts the danger faced by migrants crossing from North Africa with the everyday life of islanders.
I remember leaving the cinema enraged at the lack of action by the EU to prevent deaths in the sea. We didn’t know then that the crisis would spread to the English channel and that we’d be shamed by the UK government.
Watch it, get angry, but do something about it. Start with kicking the Tories out in the 2024 UK General Election. But don’t stop there as the issue won’t go away.
In 2019 The Guardian listed it as the 53rd best film of the 21st century.
